To every volunteer, I offer my heartfelt gratitude. For the time, effort, and love you give every single time you show up to help another. It doesn’t matter if it’s a child, the elderly, the disadvantaged, homeless, animals or the environment. You offer the one thing governments cannot supply-the time, the love needed to make a difference.
Yesterday, I attend a volunteer session for the San Diego Humane Society. They are a non-profit shelter which excepts any animal. Their adoption rate for healthy animals is one hundred percent and even more impressive is a hundred percent for treatable/rehabilitated animals. They sent home a total of 15,278 animals last year from their shelters and affiliates.
San Diego Humane Society accomplished this with a staff of three hundred and six people and a volunteer army of five thousand, one hundred and eighty-nine people. How can you help? Donations and volunteering. St. Teresa said it best, “Not all of us, can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” I urge you to consider volunteering. You are needed.
