Joy and Trepidation in Publishing A Novel

Casey Knight from rainy Los Angeles, California, I’m a first time author of the Lauren Simon fantasy series. Fang Shway LA is being edited and will be released soon. The entire process is new and exciting for me and a little overwhelming. Yet, like most things patience, diligence, research and questions should make things clearer. Upon reflection I realized today that writing my books is in many ways like raising my daughter.
Any story line begins in its infancy as an idea-unformed and capable of going in many directions. Trial and error eventually transforms the characters, the story line and eventually the book into an entity that can stand on its own. It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child and so, it takes a writer, editors, artists and readers to transform a manuscript into a book.
Authors are after all the proud parents of their books. It seems like yesterday that I held my breath when I dropped my daughter off for her first day of school. Now I am holding my breath hoping that readers will love my story and characters as much as I do. These characters are small parts of me-just as my daughter is. I am proud to say that my daughter has learned to stand on her own just as I trust that my books will.
